Kidney Transplants

Remarkable advances in kidney transplantation enable us to offer our patients encouragement and good reason for optimism at Saint Mary's Kidney Transplant Program, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Since the program began in 1973, our specialists have performed more than 1690 kidney transplants using both live donor and deceased donor kidneys. Using laparoscopic live donor nephrectomy, we have created opportunities for live kidney donation at Saint Mary's. We also added to our living donor pool through the addition of anonymous donation and a partnership with paired alliance to perform paired donations.

Saint Mary's kidney transplant program is the third largest program in the state of Michigan and has regularly had the highest success rates in the state. We are the only Grand Rapids hospital that offers this service for adult patients.

Our transplant team consists of nephrologists, transplant surgeons, urology surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, anesthesiologists, transplant coordinators, registered nurses, social workers, dietitians, physician assistants and other specially trained support staff.
